Stories of Hope

J’s Kindergarten Teacher

I don’t usually do this, but I wanted to send you a quick note about J. As I’ve been writing report cards the past couple days, it’s given me the opportunity to really take a step back and reflect on the progress that my students have made throughout the year. When we get caught up in the day to day issues and challenges, its hard to look at the big picture. I know that in the past few months, there have been some challenges, but I really wanted to let you know how proud I am of J and his progress this year (especially in the last 2 months). Over that last 2 months, he has really come out of his comfort zone and has started to explore a lot more. Before, it was a challenge to get him to actively participate in centres that did not involve iPad or Smartboard. Lately, he has been trying play dough, water table, animal play and various other centres that he showed little interest in before. He has also been using his proloquo in the last 2 weeks to request these centres and has been gesturing to adults and at times a peer to come join him at these centres. Even since our last meeting with the communication team, he has been using his proloquo more independently and seems less frustrated. Again, my team and I are really proud of J and look forward to watching his continued successes. It has been a pleasure watching him progress and mature this year and I wish you all the best in Grade 1!!
